Michael Del Prete

Michael Del Prete started keeping marine fish in the late 1960's.  In 1970 he developed a marine salt formulation for use in his importing/wholesale marine fish facility.  In 1972 he was successfully breeding and raising Amp. percula and Amp. ocellarus in Marine Environment, the synthetic sea water formulation he created. In 1974 he provided Marine Environment for use in the first captive breeding of mandarin fish.  In 1976 he provided this marine salt formulation for the first captive reproduction of corals (not propagation). 

In 1980 he provided this marine salt formulation for use in the worlds first captive breeding of Chambered nautilus at BSU.  All these firsts were in 100% artificial sea water.  In 1980 and 1981 he sponsored two collecting expeditions to the islands of Palau in Western Caroline Islands.  Each venture yielded Chambered nautilus that were sent to several public aquariums in the US.

Currently Mr. Del Prete is the CEO of Aqua Craft Products.  Aqua Craft Products manufacturers several brands/formulations of marine salts as well as a host of supplements and additives used in conjunction with closed salt water aquarium systems. Aqua Craft Products maintains offices, show rooms, warehouses and/or distribution centers in: Australia, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Malaysia, Middle East, Poland, Russia, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, Turkey, UK and in the USA. Mr. Del Prete is the longest running CEO an any marine salt manufacturing company in the world.

 

 

ABSTRACT

Michael Del Prete will offer a short talk on the state of our hobby industry.  Some topics discussed with be:  qualifications of retail shops, quality of items offered to us, the internet.  This will be presented in a humorous and satirical fashion.  A Questions & Answer session will follow this brief presentation.
